How does the online art course work?

When you enrol in the Draw and Paint In Your Pyjamas course you become a member of the DrawPj.com forum.

Here you will find a genuinely welcoming community of beginner artists and instructors who you can connect with for mutual support throughout your journey as an artist.

The basics…

  • You learn one-to-one by corresponding with your instructor.
  • Each unit is designed to be completed in 7 weeks, with a minimum of 4 to 10 hours study per week depending on the unit.
  • Classes have no specific start date, and can be commenced at any time (subject to availability.)

Your “keys” to the course

You’ll be visiting the DrawPj.com forum to download your course notes and weekly excercises.

Your instructor will give you the ‘password keys’ to access the downloadable files for your unit as you progress and complete each one.

Completing and uploading your assignments

Exercises and projects are generally designed to suit a regular sized piece of paper, which fits neatly in a scanner.

You complete and scan your excercise and then send the file either by email directly to your instructor, or upload it into a special topic set up for you on the DrawPj.com forum (your instructor will discuss the upload method with you before commencement).

Some painting projects will be painted on canvas, and in this case you will use a digital camera to photograph your work before sending it your instructor.

Instructor Comments

Your instructor will then comment on the exercise or project, with details about how you can improve your work andsuggest any corrections that you might like to make. These comments may be sent to you via return email, or uploaded into your special forum topic.

For some assignments the comments will be written in the main body of the email (or in the forum if you are studying by the forum system) however, for more complex assignments where further explanation is necessary, your instructor will write comments and suggestions directly onto your files,  then return the file to you for your review. Your instructor may suggest you adjust or redo the exercise and resubmit for further comment and if so, it is your decision to do so or not. It is in your best interest to do so.

Optional Grading

If you chose, you can have your work graded and your grades placed on your certificate when you complete all six units. All work is automatically graded unless you advise your instructor otherwise.

Does an online art course really work?

The course founder and developer of  this course Cindy Wider taught art in live settings for more than 12 years and has been presenting her courses online for the past three years. We know from results and course participant feedback that the Draw and Paint In Your Pyjamas art course often equals or exceeds the results gained in a live setting.
