The DrawPj.com Quarterly Online Art Competition is free and open to all current paying members of the DrawPj.com community who are either enrolled to study the beginner level and/or mentored course or who have studied it in the past and are still current members.

Instructors are not eligible to enter and will be judging the artworks in the competition.

This  competition is designed to give you experience in entering art competitions and to also encourage you to apply the skills you are learning within the course on other subject matter. It should be seen as a healthy and positive experience, encouraging you to do your best work and also provide you with a certain standard to aspire to.

How To Enter:

Every three months we release a variety of images to inspire you to create drawings from. The images can be found in the Artists Cafe in the dpjwebmst.wpengine.com forums area. You can either use the image exactly as it is, a portion of the image or create a completely different artwork that is just inspired by the images presented. The only criteria is that your artwork should relate to the subject matters presented.

What The Judges Are Looking For:

The criteria your judges will be judging your artworks based upon are as follows; Creativity, technical ability, emotional connection to the subject and relevance to the subject matter presented. Your work will be scored by the judges according to your ability to fulfil these criteria. There is also an extra section in the judging process where your judges are asked to select their best personal favourites and award a point system accordingly.

There is a handicap system in place so that students who have only studied one unit receive a higher number of points in the handicap section than students who have studied more units. This system operates on a sliding scale based upon how many units of the course you have studied with mentored level students receiving less points in this handicap category than beginner level students. The number of units that you have studied is also taken into consideration when making the final decision and in the event of a tie. Judges are also asked to vote for their favourite artworks in the event of any tie situations.

How Many Pieces Can You Enter?

You may enter up to four artworks into the competition.

What Awards Are Given Out?

For this competition to be a success we must have a minimum of eight entrants. If there is less than this number the competition entries will carry over into the next quarter and be judged along with the next quarterly entries. If this number of entrants is reached there will be the following awards presented;

  • First Prize
  • Overall Highly Commended (one or two depending upon the judges decision)
  • Encouragement (one or two depending upon the judges decision)

All winning entrants will receive a professionally printed certificate to celebrate their award. This award should be used in your professional artistic portfolio and/or framed to share your success with others.

Please note: in future dpjwebmst.wpengine.com will be seeking sponsors for these awards, if interested please contact Cindy Wider personally email; cindy@drawpj.com
