Have you ever tried to draw something but the image that comes out of your hand and onto your page is nothing like the thing you wanted to draw in the first place?

Did you try to stare, to really look at the object or picture you were trying to draw but it made no difference to the result? Where you ever told by an art teacher to ‘Just look harder…really stare at it and just wait for your creative right brain to come in?’ Did you try all of that and it still didn’t work?

Well if so you are not alone. This annoying problem seems to happen to anyone who tries to draw when you don’t know this big secret that I am about to share with you.

The biggest Drawing Secret is that to draw really well you don’t just Stare, you Stare and Compare!

Lets look into this comment a little bit deeper shall we. At Drawpj.com our students come to us unable to draw very well, then they go on to draw at a saleable level in a matter of weeks. Some gain commissions from family and friends or business associates, others just draw for the fun of it. Some of our students have won awards for their art from just half way through our 42 week course. The biggest secret to this success is that they are all learning to look at things differently than they were before. They are learning to stare and compare.

Our students have been achieving this success while studying the ‘Complete Drawing and Painting Certificate Course’ in the privacy of their own home, at their own pace, using our internet based correspondence system. It takes (on average) most people approximately 64 hours (over a 14 week period) to create a saleable standard portrait when they complete our course as set out in the course materials and make any corrections to their course exercises along the way (as suggested by their own personal instructor.)

Sure we have some students who can draw quite well to begin with but they have become stuck at a certain level of ability and no matter what they have tried they can’t move forward. We help those students to dramatically improve their drawing skills too!

Angela Deck is a great example of a student who came to us needing to improve her drawing skills. within a few short months Angela went from a complete beginner into an Award Winning Student. She received two prestigious awards; the ‘Grand Champion’ in the Fine Arts division at the Sedgwick County Fair 2012 for her artwork titled ‘Urban Decor’ and she was also awarded 2nd place for the same artwork in the Kansas State Fair. You can see Anela’s work and read more about her progress here http://dpjwebmst.wpengine.com/drawpj-com-course-participant-angela-deck-wins-awards/

Within a few short weeks most of our students’ have dramatically improved their drawing abilities. We have the proof, just hop on over and explore our online classrooms and you will see that in the first week the student submits a ‘before’ self portrait then after they have completed unit three of our six unit ‘Complete Drawing and Painting Certificate Course’ they have created an amazingly realistic portrait and many other wonderful drawings as exerices in the course.

You can also see a small handful of these students below. On the left side is the ‘Before’ our course image, and on the right is the ‘After’ image that the student has created just 64 hours into our internet correspondence art course at Drawpj.com.

Before and after image

These are typical examples of the progress our students make on average just 64 hours into our internet based correspondence art course. The before images are on the left and after images on the right.

Our students all progress at their own rate with no comparison to another but they all share one thing in common; their drawing skills improve dramatically!

More about the biggest Drawing Secret….learning how to compare in the right way needed for drawing;

The big secret to this phenomenal success that our students are repeatedly able to achieve is that we help them learn how to stare and compare using a special kind of language that we call the ‘Artist’s Language.’ No its not a whole heap of art jargon terminology, its just ordinary everyday words that we use on a regular basis.

With this special kind of language our students are encouraged to ask themselves questions about the object or image they are drawing from. The types of questions asked directly relate to the image. They might be asking something like this; ‘What size is this line compared to the other alongside? What angle is this line compared to the side or top of my page…etc.’

Along with the constant reminder to ‘Stare and Compare’ by using the Arists language our students are also given full support and encouragement with a whole topic dedicated just to them! They are told exactly where their work needs to be changed and more importantly exactly how. This information is given in tiny baby steps along the way…for each and every single exercise in our course.

This way you too can expect to learn how to draw very well. You can come to us right from a complete absolute beginner adult (or child aged 12 and upwards) or even if you are a more experienced artist but feel stuck. You will soon discover your skill gaps and we can help you to mend those along the way. You will be fully supported while you lear to accomplish the small drawing skills before being presented with the really big ones.

One of our secrets to success is to Stare and Compare. Remember to ask questions as you look at the object or image you are drawing from. Ask simple questions like; “What angle is this compared to the side of my page” you can even say things such as “Oh it curving towards the kitchen door, then it goes back towards the curtain…”. This is particularly helpful when you are struggling with curves. Try saying this out loud to yourself. You will find that you only need to do this for the first few minutes and suddenly you will find yourself drawing better.

At  Drawpj.com you will learn a whole heap more secrets to success with drawing once and for all!

There is no need for you to struggle along by yourself any longer, see you there!
